FAQ: Norfolk Island History Lovers

Do I need a passport to travel to Norfolk island?
No: Flights between Norfolk Island and mainland Australia depart from and arrive at Sydney and Brisbane international terminal.

Passports and visas are required when travelling to Norfolk Island  from the Australian mainland or from Norfolk Island to the Australian mainland. Non-citizens are advised, however, to carry their passport if flying between Norfolk Island and mainland Australia.

Photographic identification, such as an Australian Driver’s License, will be required for clearance through Customs and Immigration. Should you have a passport we recommend that you travel with it.

Duty free purchases will continue to be available for travel between Norfolk Island and mainland Australia.

I want to have a car to explore beautiful Norfolk island
Seven days car hire and car insurance is included in the History Lovers package. A valid Australian Driver’s License is required

Does the airflight include my luggage?
Yes – a 23kg bag limit with one 1 carry‐on bag (7kg)

How do I get to my accommodation?
You will be pick up at Norfolk Island airport and taken to your accommodation.

Can I use my Medicare Card on Norfolk Island? Yes

What about internet and my mobile phone?
The accommodation resort does sells mobile phone sim cards and internet time block to use around Norfolk Island, whilst internet access is free in and around the reception area

Can progress payments be made: Yes – deposit is $200 per person.  The deposit of $200 pp is non-refundable.  with full payment by 15 February 2017 for the May 2017 History Lovers. Pricing for bookings after this date may be subject to change.

Cancellation penalties apply within 90 days prior to travel. Within 60 days of travel, up to 100% cancellation fees may apply.  So we do suggest travel insurance.

Norfolk Island History Lovers Holiday “A plastic bag free holiday: Help protect Norfolk Island Marine Life”

Sydney Female Orphan School 1801 – 1818

Set up by Governor King in 1801, was initially located in George Street, Sydney.

It was the first school established using public funds, and furthermore, as a residential school to provide care for ‘orphan’, destitute, neglected and abandoned girls, it was the initial provider of child welfare provisions for children in need of care.

Thirty-one girls, not all of whom were orphans, between the ages of seven and fourteen years were enrolled in the beginning (17 August 1801). Continue reading
