Charles was born St Martins London. As Charles Knowland, he was tried for for stealing, on the 20th day of July last, a cloth coat, value 10 s. a hat, value 10 s. a waistcoat, value 4 s. a pair of shoes, value 1 s. a pair of plated buckles, value 2 s. the property of Rice Evers at Old Bailey on 12 Sep 1787 and received a sentence of seven years transportation.
As Charles Knowland, he arrived in NSW aboard the Surprize in 1790. He travelled to Norfolk Island aboard the Mary Ann in August 1791. As the convict Charles Nowland he received rations until 1795. He enlisted into the NSW Corps on Norfolk Island on 8 Dec 1801 with the rank of private. Continue reading
