Norfolk Island was first occupied and settled by the British in 1788, by a party from the settlement at Sydney then itself only five weeks old.
This 1 hour workshop reviews some of the convict and shipping records for Norfolk Island, along with Birth, Deaths and Marriages records for Norfolk Island 1st Settlement 1788 – 1814, musters and other research resources and much more.
The settlement on Norfolk Island played an important role in supplying Sydney until it became self-supporting.
Norfolk’s first settlement lasted until 1814 when the community was resettled in Tasmania. By late 1791 nearly half of the Colony was on Norfolk island.
Workshop can be adapted to a 30 minute presentation or two hour lecture.
